Project Overview

Industrial Symbiosis (IS) is an innovative approach that brings together companies from different sectors in an effort to promote the valorization of waste, improvement of resource efficiency and reduction of environmental impact.

Industrial Symbiosis (IS) is a collaborative and systemic business approach that aims to optimize material and energy cycles by connecting the supply and demand of different industries. IS offers strategies for creating advanced circular and cascading systems, which extend the flow of energy and materials for multiple uses within industrial systems. This ultimately leads to increased resource productivity and efficiency.

Benefit

Industrial symbiosis is a collaborative effort in which two or more industrial partners work together to achieve mutual benefits. This approach brings together different perspectives and can involve companies exchanging resources such as materials, water, and energy.

In simpler terms, one company's waste or excess material becomes the input for another company's production process, either directly or indirectly. This concept can be summed up as "One company's trash is another company's treasure." The goal is to fully utilize these residual materials, ideally in a cascading manner. If this is not possible, lower-value materials are down-cycled or recycled for use in productions where the quality meets the required standards.

Industrial symbiosis is a crucial tool for reducing raw material consumption and saving money. Companies work together to maximize the value of waste generated from industrial production.
